Notes:Reynolds, Georgia, nestled in Taylor County, is a small town rich in history and community spirit. Established in the early 1850s, Reynolds owes its origins to the expansion of the Central of Georgia Railroad between Macon and Columbus. Governor George W. Towns and H.H. Long laid out the town in 1851, featuring symmetrical blocks and streets aligned north-south and east-west. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Reynolds in 1853, and while the exact namesake is debated, possibilities include John Reynolds, Georgia’s first royal governor, or L.C. Reynolds, a railroad official.
The town's early development included wooden store buildings along Talbot and Winston streets, with its first brick building erected in 1886. Reynolds was also home to the Coleman Institute, established in 1908 to educate local children, though it was lost to a fire in 1917.
Today, Reynolds boasts a population of approximately 926 residents. The town is celebrated for its wide, oak-lined streets and a historic commercial district that reflects its rich heritage.
A highlight of Reynolds is the annual Georgia Strawberry Festival, held every April. This event features a charming parade, local vendors, live music, and, of course, an abundance of fresh strawberries, drawing visitors from across the region. For motorsport enthusiasts, the Silver Dollar Raceway offers a premier NHRA quarter-mile drag strip experience. Located on 168 acres, the raceway hosts various events and is a significant attraction in the area.
Reynolds' blend of historical significance and vibrant community events makes it a unique destination in Georgia.
